I know there have been a lot of nervous comments thrown around about heading for Canada if things get too weird here in the US, but I have it on good authority that the Canadians have their own ideas about immigration… Anyway, the good news is that restrictions on music crossing the border are minimal, and one singer – a certain Angela McKenzie – is making sure those maple sugar-sweet goods don’t go unappreciated. She’s celebrating the Maple Leaf in the Big Apple, without a doubt, by performing songs by Canadian artists, and I am her accompanist. We bring “The Canadian Songbook, Part 3” to The Shrine World Music Venue in NYC this weekend on Sunday, June 26, at 7:45pm. Expect to hear familiar hits by Joni Mitchell, Bruce Cockburn, Alanis Morissette, The Weeknd and more. History is shared, spot-quizzes are sprung, and Canada-themed gifts are liberally awarded to audience participants. A good time is had by all, and by the way, The Shrine is a very cool club which only showcases independent artists…is that you? Check it out!
